What an exciting meeting today- one that makes you have hope for the revitalization of downtown Birmingham. Jack Fields, Executive Director of the BJCC, shared information on the BJCC Complex and the development of an Entertainment District adjacent to the BJCC, being developed by Performa Entertainment. This will be a very exciting project and something we can be proud of. Here are some of the details and renderings.

President Brian Rodgers gave the Club an update from the 10/09 Board Meeting. Highlights included approvval of the Budgets for 2007-2008. These include $18,000+ in our Charity Budget that help us to live out the values of Kiwanis- making a difference in one community, one child at a time. New Projects include a Kiwanis One Day District-Wide (April 5th) project for the Rosedale Community in Homewood. Dick Berliner will share more information on this worthwhile effort at future meetings.
We are also proud to welcome a new member to the Club. Mary Browning is a Realtor with LAH. She is very active in the community and will be a definite asset to our club. Mary presented to the club about the Relay for Life -American Cancer Society fundraiser that we contributed to in 2006-2007.

This event will be in three shifts this year. 1) Shopping for the Toys and Decoration items (WalMart), 2) Unpack/Sort Items at the McWane Center, 3) Decorate the Tree at the McWane Center (with plenty of time for fun & fellowship). The decorated trees will be on display to the public at the McWane Center for 10-Days before being purchased (hopefully at our usual high-level premium) with donations going to Children’s Hospital. This is definitely an event you will want to be a part of. Join us for one of the 3 opportunities on the 5th. Email Sherry.Scarborough@chsys.org or give her a call at 939-9696.
Hope you can join us next week when our speaker will be Richard Scott, author of Legends of Alabama Football.
