MCWANE SCIENCE CENTER HOSTING ILLUMINATIONS TO BENEFIT CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL |
10/30/2007

| BIRMINGHAM (Oct. 30, 2007) – The holiday season is quickly approaching and what better way to kick it off than by attending the area’s premiere Christmas tree extravaganza?Children’s Hospital and the McWane Science Center have partnered to light up the holidays with Illuminations 2007. This first-year event will feature 36 elaborately-decorated trees from Birmingham’s finest designers and decorators. Designs range from traditional to whimsical to child oriented.
The trees will be on display Nov. 7-13, on the third floor of the McWane Science Center (200 19th Street North). The trees may be viewed with paid admission. There is no additional charge to see the trees and a limited number of trees are still available for purchase. To purchase a tree for your home or business, contact Sara Horton at 205/558-2409 or sara.horton@chsys.org. “My husband and I have enjoyed designing trees for several years,” said Johnnie Crittenden, one of this year’s tree designers. “The joy of this event is in the faces of the children who are able to view the trees. The new partnership between Children’s Hospital and the McWane Science Center will allow many more children to enjoy the magic of Christmas trees that only few could see in years past.” Sponsors for this event include Macy’s and Mr. & Mrs. Charles O. Trotter. McWane Science Center is Birmingham’s world-class, 60,000 square-foot science museum, aquarium and IMAX® Dome Theater. The Children’s Hospital of Alabama is the only hospital in the state dedicated solely to the care and treatment of children and one of the 10 busiest pediatric medical centers in the U.S. One of only about 45 freestanding acute care hospitals of its kind in the nation, Children’s Hospital is home to Alabama’s only Level I pediatric trauma center. Children’s campus includes the largest pediatric burn center in the Southeast, one of the largest pediatric outpatient centers in the country and a leading pediatric hematology/oncology center and bone marrow transplant program. Although Children’s is the primary site for all pediatric educational programs and patient care activities within the UAB Medical Center, Children’s Hospital is a private, not-for-profit hospital governed by a volunteer board of trustees. Children’s will celebrate its centennial anniversary in 2011. |
