Our thoughts and prayers for recovery go out to Ken Ebaugh who is recovering from cranial surgery that saved his life a few weeks ago. I will let Ken’s words tell the story, but encourage any members wishing to send him a note of encouragement to send it to:

Sorry I missed this last gathering, but I look forward to seeing one and all in the future. I need to bring everyone up-to-speed on recent events, but want all to know that I look forward to PANCAKE DAY service. I am not at the office at the moment, but I am working a few hours a day from home -
or at least from my mother’s home. She is in charge of my convalescence.
I was involved in a motor vehicle accident the day before Thanksgiving. I thought the only injury I had suffered was a bruising blow to my shoulder. So, I went back to work and helped complete the very successful merger of AmSouth and Regions Bank. Little did I know that a closed brain-bleed had
been started, and the intracranial pressure reached a critical point on 12/26/07. I was taken to the ER and transferred by helicopter to UAB for emergency neurosurgery. I have always wanted to take a helicopter ride, but I didn’t even know I was in one, much less flying. Sally tells me I had a very cute flight nurse, but I missed that as well – darn it! Dr. Kristen Riley was my Christmas Miracle worker. According to her, I was only about 3-hours from death’s door when she started working on me.
After too many ups-and-downs, I now feel almost human again, but I do not have much in energy reserves at this point. I have been staying at my mother’s during the day since leaving the NICU; and, her cooking and the extra sleep are most helpful. I have not had any narcotics nor nausea since she accepted her new [old?], daily care-taker task. Moms are way better than chicken soup! But, I now look too much like a troll [baggy, black-eyes, bald-head, craniotomy and scars with yellow/purple skin,] for
comfort. Just cover your eyes when I next appear. I visit Dr. Riley tomorrow to have the staples removed from my scalp, and hopefully, take my last CT scan. Since there seem to be at least a hundred staples up there, I don’t think I am looking forward to this visit. Bring on the Novocaine!
